Hallmarks ![]() Hallmarks were first used in 1300AD and are the first recorded consumer protection. Each piece is independently tested for its gold content (18 carat is 750 parts per 1000, i.e. 75% gold, the remainder is made up of alloys to make the gold more durable). Each piece of our jewellery is hallmarked showing its metal content and assay office. This is for your protection, as it is an offence to describe an item as silver, gold or platinum without the item being hallmarked. Diamonds ![]() The Diamonds we use are all non conflict stones. This means they are not sourced from countries that could use the monies to fund warfare. Each diamond is designed by hand into various shapes and proportions. This is referred to as its cut. Diamonds are graded by colour. We use the letters of the alphabet for each hint of yellow appearing. The grade starts at D (very white) and goes though to Z (very pale yellow). We use H as a standard. Diamonds are also graded by the size and amount of inclusions. Inclusions are tiny pieces of other gem material trapped in the diamond when it was forming. The grade we use as a standard is VVS2 Which simply means Very Very Small inclusions found. |
